This is a collection of photos that highlight different aspects of work-in-progress in my studio. There is something I really love about raw, wet clay and the way it looks and feels before it is transformed during the glazing and firing process. It’s hard to keep my “hands off” when the pieces are in this stage. To see finished work, click on the “Gallery” tab or visit my website at: www.allendesignstudio.com or my on-line store at: www.allendesignstudio.etsy.com.

Simply amazing! I am astonished at the amount of work you can get done. You have an incredible drive and passion for the arts. Keep it up! I know it is a healing time for you.

I am interested in your process when making the wheel thrown pears.
Hi Deb, thanks for visiting. As for the pears, I throw them on the wheel as a closed form with somewhat of a pear shape, then wait for them to set up before I go in with my hands to give them more of an organic feel. I then make a stem with a small amount of twisted clay and attach it to the top with slip. Lastly, I poke a small hole in the bottom of the pear so that the air can escape when fired. Thanks for asking!
I stumbled upon your site looking for the wellesley hills craft show and was inspired by your quotes and the overall feeling of your pottery and website. You really do a very beautiful job.
I’ve been trying to get a hold of the December x-mas show being held at the universalist unitarian church in Newburyport. Would you be able to pass along a contact person for me – I would really appreciate it. I hope to be able to see your pottery in person someday. Thank you….
Julie
Thanks, Julie! I’d be happy to email you the contact person…she’s a good friend of mine!
Wow, I’m always amazed how life sends you gifts just when you need them! A friend sent this sight to me because of the dog dance clip, as I love animals! I decided to check out the rest of the sight due to the name (love it) and discovered the IC connection. I too am a long time IC gal (hate to use the word sufferer) and it was nice to see the connection here. I had it under controll for a couple of years finally and recently it has taken a turn. I am again limiting my diet and trying new things. I would love for any ideas or things that may have helped you!
Also, on my life list of things to do Is learn to make pottery. I have yet to take a class, but know it will happen!
anyway, I really just wanted to express my wow moment in receiveing the gift of this site!
Many blessings, Tammy
Hi Tammy, thanks for visiting and leaving a comment on my blog. I wish I could pinpoint what I’ve done that has specifically helped me, however I think it’s been a combination of things over the course of 12 years – and I’m still learning. A good diet is number 1 and the biggest obstacle I face each day. Figuring out the mind/body/spirit connection is also key. From what I gather from your website (beautiful, btw!), you have a lot of expertise in that area, so there is probably a great deal you could teach me. Cleaning up my environment and figuring out what I was allergic to helped too. I hope you get on top of your IC soon, as well as getting a chance to try your hand at pottery. Clay is a great healer all on its own!
Melynn… Your jars are absolutely handsome. I love the blue ones. How much are they. I am sure I want you to put my name on one.
I hope you have a successful new season…Go girl!!
