Thought for the Week
When you have come to the edge of all the light you know, and are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown, Faith is knowing that one of two things will happen: There will either be something solid to stand on or you will be taught how to fly. – AnonymousVisit My Website

LOVE the covered jar and the way the design goes over the lid. It’s so earthy. What might you keep in there, I wonder?
Hi Sally, I’m not sure – it’s probably more of a decorative piece than anything else. Maybe an urn for a beloved pet? I made the design go over the lid mainly to help line it up when taking it off and replacing it, but I like the way it works as a design too.
i love the shape of the covered jar — and it’s earthy tones. beautiful work, melynn.
Thanks, Suz!
Hi Melyn
I just love the covered jar. It reminds me of a tagine pot – for cooking Moroccan food! And I have to agree with your friend about the mug – it definitely looks like a landscape. Your work gets more beautiful and intriguing (!).
Irene
I love the coffee cup. That is beautiful.
I think you are starting to accomplish a natural look to your work instead of a cold look.
Smile! and Happy Independence Day!
Very nice Melynn, is it difficult to make the cover fit the jar?
Hi bookbabie, in this case, I threw the jar as a closed form and then cut through the top portion at an angle to make the lid so that it would drop into place. It’s not the usual way I make lids, but it worked for this particular shape so that the profile of the lid lines up perfectly with the body of the jar. An easy solution!
From the picture the glaze on the mug looks like a seascape! I see some strong waves and surf and even a little dory! Your work always seems to reveal some sort of story to me. The covered jar could contain a magic potion! It definitely has a majestic aura around it!
Hey Melynn, always fun to come to your site and see what you have created, so earthy which also makes them seem very spiritual, something you would image a ancient potter who goes and digs up their own clay from the earth nearby, really gives me that timeless feel, well done! (as always) katy
A magic potion… Great idea, Colleen. Now we just need someone to make that too. What shall it be for? I don’t want to be too ‘Miss World-ish’, but how about a bit of world peace for starters?
