New Work
March 19, 2008 by Melynn

I finally got around to photographing some of my new work and a couple of bowls with rolled and pinched rims that I did for my ceramics class. All of these pieces were wheel-thrown and fired to Cone 6 in my electric kiln. The bowl to the left and the vase on the top right were carved, and the small dots around the neck of the vase on the top left was done with a slip trailer.

these are all so lovely - but the carved ones are just spectacular!! you are such a gifted potter.
Thanks, Suz!
Melynn, these are gorgeous! You must be (are, I trust) very pleased. That bottom one, particularly stunning.
Beautiful work Melynn *she says while sipping tea from her Melynn original
My sentiments exactly bookbabie - also while drinking a cuppa from my Melynn original!! And the coffee tastes so good - with the extra flavour in the knowledge that my cup has been crafted by someone like you.
It gives me great pleasure to make things that people enjoy using!
Melynn,
They are all so exciting to look at!! They just seem really full with everything that you already know and everything that you are learning in your new class. Really stunning. kt
They are very graceful looking. The two middle ones are my favorite, they seem to be free and open to the world. The rims create a lot of movement that stimulates the senses. The bottom one is also well balanced. The thickness of the rim and decoration seem to balance well. The top two I am not sure about. They are glazed beautifully but seem a little top heavy although it is hard to judge from a picture. I would like to hold them and turn them around in my hands. The left one has a graceful curve. Well that is the teacher in me. I was also hoping to see some high fired reduction glazes on some of these. Any hope for the future? Peace!
Hi Walter, looking at the top two vases I see what you mean about them being top heavy. I’ll have to work on that. I do have some pieces that I fired in the gas reduction kiln at Harvard that I’ll put on my blog soon. Some of them didn’t come out the way I expected them to because I wasn’t familiar with the glazes, but I did some honey pots and garlic jars in Spodumene that came out great!
Marvelous work as always Melynn.
